5 nearby places you must visit on your honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is the most romantic place for spending your honeymoon. The white sand and the blue sky create an amazing setting to begin a new life full of dreams and passion.

However, after a couple of nights in Playa del Carmen, you might start wondering which nearby towns and villages you can visit. And needless to say, Playa del Carmen is surrounded by a spectacular list of places to see.

Since you will be in a romantic mood, I have prepared for you a list of five places you cannot miss while enjoying your honeymoon in Playa del Carmen.

Reconnect with nature in Akumal

Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

What about a romantic day surrounded by nature? About a 30-minute drive south of Playa del Carmen lies Akumal, a small but beautiful town.

Known as an impressive place for snorkeling, Akumal’s beaches will immediately make you forget all about the city landscape.

You can also visit Aktun-Chen, a natural reserve, where you can actually walk in the jungle and behold the local wildlife.

Extra Tip: The beaches around Akumal are a major spawn point of sea turtles. Depending on the time of the year, you may also be able to watch them coming out of the sea.

Have a romantic dinner in Cancun

Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

Your honeymoon cannot be complete without a romantic dinner in a fine restaurant. So, what about an escapade to Cancun?

Yes, I know! You can find some of the finest restaurants in Playa del Carmen’s Quinta Avenida Street. Nevertheless, if you are planning to spend quite some time in Playa del Carmen, you might want to shake your itinerary a little bit up and visit the “big city”.

Having a romantic dinner in one of Cancun’s best restaurants would be an incredible experience for you and your partner.

Cancun’s HoZo (Hotel Zone) has the largest number of high-end restaurants in the city. However, you can also find incredible places around downtown Cancun.

Extra Tip: Cancun’s nightlife is something you must experience. Don’t be surprised if you get caught by the dawn while you are still partying.

Cozumel: The perfect place for shopping

Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

Since there is nothing more romantic than going for shopping with your loved one, you can’t skip visiting Cozumel.

Located just in front of Playa del Carmen’s shores, Cozumel is a “one-stop-shop” for everything related to fun and romance during your honeymoon.

However, my suggestion to couples visiting Cozumel has always been to “focus on the duty-free shops”. In Cozumel, you can find some of the most amazing jewelry boutiques you can imagine.

Extra Tip: Keep in mind that Cozumel is famous for its shopping malls. So, be prepared for a whole day of fun visiting a wide range of stores.

Celebrate the beginning of your new life together under Tulum’s night sky

Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

You know Playa del Carmen is the right honeymoon destination when you have the opportunity of attending a music festival in Tulum.

There are two main reasons why Tulum is worldwide famous. First, it has an incomparable archaeological site. Second, some of the most amazing parties and festivals happen over there.

Obviously, you cannot miss the chance of spending a night listening to great music and dancing under the stars.

Extra Tip: Check Tulum’s calendar of events in advance. There are many hidden gems you don’t want to miss.

Puerto Morelos: There’s no better place for unwinding before flying back home

Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

Before flying back home, unwinding is essential. What better place for relaxing than a spa in Puerto Morelos?

Puerto Morelos is a small town located about a half-hour drive north of Playa del Carmen. Clearly, the perfect place for taking a break in front of the sea.

Puerto Morelos has some quite nice spas where you can prepare yourself for the journey back home. It is also a relatively quiet place for talking a walk and having one last bite of Mayan cuisine.

Extra Tip: In case you’re still looking for one last adventure, you can take a small vessel, called Catamaran, to Playa Maroma, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Rivera Maya.

Some final thoughts

Playa del Carmen is the perfect choice for a honeymoon destination; not only is it one of the most romantic places in the Caribbean but also because it is located right in the middle of the Riviera Maya.

I promise you will find many nearby places to make your honeymoon at Playa del Carmen even more unforgettable.

Have you ever been to Playa del Carmen? Would you spend your honeymoon there?

  6. I totally agree that Playa del Carmen has a little something for everyone. You can experience it the beach way, the shopping way, the foodie way… And for adventure I’d recommend the scuba diving rather than the shopping on Cozumel. The reef *did* get slammed by hurricanes once upon a time but life is returning and the dives are so close you don’t have to travel far for some great underwater views. If possible, scuba diving in a cenote is a great experience, and you only need to be open water certified. 🙂
