Most people think of Mexico as warm, sunny country, and generally that’s the case. However, there are parts of Mexico where it snows every winter.
The northern provinces of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, and Zacatecas get regular snowfall during the winter, especially in the mountains.
Also, the mountains that surround Mexico City and the central provinces get yearly snow, too. Many people flock to the mountainside to spend the day playing the snow and then drive back to the city, where it’s perfectly dry.
These are pictures of the snow storm that struck northern Mexico on Thursday, December 7th, 2017 (there are snow storms every winter, this was just one of them).

Mexico is my respite for beautiful scenery and warm sunshine. Although the snow is pretty, I have shoveled my share over the years. As winter gradually gets here, I’m already looking forward to SPRING!
Enjoy the snow while it lasts.

Several years ago, when I took the bus up to Mexico City, the mountain pass on federal highway 150 between Puebla and Mexico City was covered in snow and the highway had been closed two days before. We’ve had several “frente frío” warnings for mountains in Oaxaca, where no one has heat. Brrrr…

Wow, yes. I’ve also traveled along the Puebla highway when it’s covered with snow. There’s a frente frío right now, but it’s not that bad. It can actually get quite cold in the Oaxaca mountains during the winter!

I guess I never really connected Mexico with snow! I’m shivering for those souls with no heat! I’m from Minnesota, so we get a LOT of snow, but it varies every year, of course.
